From: The Netherlands

DJ style: “Progressive, electronic.”

Best known for: “'I Could Be The One’ with Avicii, and my record label Protocol Recordings.”

The world’s top dance festivals hosted Nicky Romero in 2023. Ultra Music Festival in Sao Paulo, S20 in Bangkok, Parookaville in Weeze, Germany, World DJ Festival in Seoul, and EDC Mexico City were just some of his global stopovers.

He’s also been hard at work in the studio, releasing tonnes of new tracks. ‘All You Need Is Love’ was a poppy collaboration with Nico Santos and Jonas Blue, but other hits, such as ‘Give In’, ‘Mahoya’, and ‘Turn Off The Lights’ were geared very much to the dancefloor. ‘Mahoya’ embodies his new Nightvision sound: a deeper, progressive house side of his repertoire. “Over the past year, my focus has been on evolving my club sound, and defining the unique Nightvision sound,” Romero says.

Romero plans to bring Nightvision to the stage with his first solo live show, taking place at AFAS Live in Amsterdam on 2nd December. The DJ/producer tells us he’s been “diligently working behind the scenes” to develop the show, which promises to be spectacular, with special guests, new music and plenty of the biggest tracks from his discography over the years. After that, he’ll be heading to London to play Ministry Of Sound on 8th December.

Hero of 2023: “Calvin Harris stands out as a true hero in 2023, delivering bangers like ‘Miracle’ and ‘Desire’, which have kept the electronic dance scene alive and kicking.”

Fave tune of 2023: “Nothing But Thieves ‘Welcome To The DCC’.”

Best DJ set you’ve seen in 2023: “One standout moment was watching Fred again..’s performance at Glastonbury this year.”

What was the most exciting tech development of 2023? “The introduction of Pioneer CDJ-3000s has been a game-changer for DJs. These devices are top-notch, and enhanced our performance capabilities.”

Rising star DJ/producer of 2023: “Mau P.”

What gives you hope for 2024? “The resurgence of original music and a renewed flow of creativity in the music industry.”
