Instead of opening its doors when Covid-19 restrictions lifted, The Grand Factory was sadly rebuilding them. The former mattress factory, which had been a “haven for local and regional artists” since 2014 and put itself on the international clubbing map by bringing in key underground bookings including Kamaal Williams, Black Coffee and Acid Arab, was destroyed in the 2020 Beirut explosion.
Fundraising was essential to gather resources to rebuild, and after raising over $50,000 through its community, it plans to re-open this December. Until then, the group “brought the rave back to Beirut” with a series of events in the city last year, which hosted acts such as Amê and Mind Against.
